Block IP addresses
Dealing with issues
There are several reason to block IP addresses:
- Visitor spamming your blog
- People ripping your whole website
- e-mail harvesters
- Suspicious log activities that indicate illegal image usage
- How about people linking to your website and placing your content in a iframe.
The next question is what to do about it?
The easiest way to prevent someone from stealing from your site is blocking the IP address (this assumes that they have a static IP address) or ip address range.
In the htaccess file, you can place
deny from 66.40.10.24
This one IP address ( 66.40.10.24 ) I selected is a website that takes my content from my webpage and hosts it on their website in two ways. The use the actual content on the web page and then use the whole web site in an iframe. On top of that they use my Title, Description and Keywords to create the dynamically generated web page to display & sell Google Adsense ads.
Of course, I reported this to Google and they do not seem to understand that this violates thier own terms and conditions. Since I reported this over two months ago, Google has done nothing, so adding the deny will prevent them from using my web content to profit by.
You may ask how did I find out that this was even going on?
It’s simple, conduct a link search on Google or Yahoo
links: www.smittysholdings.com
Then examine the results. You will see how many incoming links are linking to your website.
Warning! Be care of the links you click on some time they may carry warnings of viruses or malware. You may see this type of message from Google.
This site may harm your computer. – this link will take you to Google’s definition of what will harm your computer.
There are a host of reasons to block people, but is this additional work worth it? I think in some cases it is worth it and must be addressed. Just do not go over board with it or the htaccess will be so big – it could affect your website loading quickly.
Good luck and have a Happy Holiday.
