The tipping points of Global Warming - are we there?

Tag: Generaladmin @ 11:40 am

Being an environmentalist at heart and in practice, I read this article in USA Today that made my feel that the world we are passing on to generations after us will be totally different - ruined - in terms of what we have today. This article is worth reading and thinking about. Is there really anything we can do to help save the planet, save the way we live our lives today, or even take action to make changes that will result in stopping the impending environmental destruction caused by our past and present generations?

Is Earth near its ‘tipping points’ from global warming?

Earth is spinning toward many points of no return from the damage of global warming, after which disease, desolation and famine are inevitable, say scientists involved in an international report due Friday on the effects of climate change.

Opinions vary about how long it will take to reach those “tipping points” and whether attempts to cut planet-warming gases churned out by power plants, vehicles and other human industry can slow, halt or reverse the harmful effects in coming decades. Some suggest it might be cheaper for society to adapt to the changing climate than to roll back the pace of warming.

Reality Check - What is your website up to?

Tag: General, Web Marketingadmin @ 12:01 pm

Over the past several months work has been great. New clients, new challenges and fresh ideas, but there is one thing that I have noticed and it will always annoy me.  Web sites that do not update their content! It’s like the website was built and forgotten.

When I look at a web site that I have viewed several months ago and nothing has changed, I have to think - why in the world would I want to go back there? In my case, it is to consult the owner, but every website owner needs to take the time to add something to their websites. I am sure there is always something to write about in your business.

One of the issues that came out while consulting a website owner, was the cost of adding new web pages. Hogwash, I say! You can do many things to add more content:

  • Start a blog - write an article once a day or at least weekly
  • Add an article manager to the website to upload web pages yourself - Begin writing articles about your business services or products on a weekly or monthly basis
  • Update a web page with new product information - products change often
  • Rewrite your services page - did you add something new or change the way you do things?
  • Did you get an award or receive recognition for something?  Add it to your about us page
  • Did you become a member of a Chamber of Commerce or Networking Group? Let everyone know by adding it to your website
  • Are you sponsoring a junior sports team or charity?
  • When is the last time you got a testimonial? Show the world you got satisfied customers. Add them to your website. If your customer took the time to write something nice about you, at least give them credit and link to them. People enjoy reading testimonials.
  • Ask for feedback about your products or services, but monitor those responses closely. This is a world of spam and people will take advantage of those types of systems. Feedback allows future customers to help the decision process about different products. It also helps you realize what people are thinking and doing with your products.
  • Find a RSS feed that suits your website. These can change frequently and can add something fresh to your website.
  • Add a short video clip with an text based explanation, if it something that can add to your marketing.

There are many ways to add more content to your website. Just don’t let your website go stale. Remember, people are visiting your website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It never sleeps. So please update  your website.
